| Characteristics | Autoecious demicyclic rust fungus. Spermogonial-aecial infection forms small to large, circular to elliptical lesions on leaves. Aecia are orange-yellow, Aecidium-type; telia are dark brown or blackish with two-celled teliospores (38–60 × 20–28 µm) bearing sharp-pointed spines. |
| Notes | Common on P. peltatum in eastern North America. Chinese specimens (P. diphylleiae) determined as P. podophylli after comparative morphology. Biological and phylogenetic relationships between geographically isolated populations remain of interest. |
| Economic importance | Mainly of academic and ecological interest; causes leaf rust on Podophyllum peltatum but not known to cause significant economic damage. |
